a curtain billows
before the rain
scent of roses
Ferris Gilli writes haiku that are grounded in reality. Her work most often comes from personal events that give her new insight into humanity’s enduring bond with nature. The continual sense of awe inspired by her experiences in North America, South America, and Europe informs her poems. Her haiku tutorials have appeared on-line and in print, and she enjoys mentoring poets who seek guidance in the genre. She lives in North Georgia with her husband, where they are enthusiastic birders.
Ms. Gilli’s award-winning work appears in eminent haiku journals and anthologies, and she has judged a number of prestigious haiku-related contests. Her haiku collection, Shaped by the Wind, was published in 2006 by Snapshot Press. She served as an Associate Editor of The Heron’s Nest from December 2000 to August 2018. She is currently the journal’s Consulting Editor.
