About the Author

Marian Olson lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Non-fiction writer and poet, she has been publishing haiku since 1979 and is the author of seven books of poetry, including Songs of the Chicken Yard, a critically acclaimed book of haiku and senryu. Desert Hours won first place in the Haiku Society of America Merit Book Award for 2008, as well as being a finalist in the 2008 New Mexico Book Awards. Consider This placed first in the 2011 free verse Snapshot E-book competition. Moondance is her latest book of haiku poetry. Forthcoming in 2014, Kaleidoscope will be her first book of tanka.

Her thoughts about working with haiku:

Haiku is the tiniest poem—no frills, no pretentious language, just the bones of an image or two that open the heart or mind and often both. Like concentric circles radiating from a pebble thrown into a still pond, a well-written haiku can generate multiple responses in the receptive reader. No other poetic form can do so much with so few words. Discipline, focus, and intuition are one when creating haiku.
