Penny Harter is known for free-verse poems, haiku, and haibun, as well as for short stories, and essays. Her work appears worldwide in anthologies and journals, and her extended literary auto-biography is featured in Contemporary Authors. Her most recent books are The Resonance Around Us; Recycling Starlight; and One Bowl (an e-book).

Earlier collections include The Beastie Book: An Alphabestiary; The Night Marsh; Lizard Light: Poems From the Earth; Turtle Blessing; and Buried in the Sky. She has won three poetry fellowships from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and awards from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the Poetry Society of America. She received the first William O. Douglas Nature Writing Award for her work in American Nature Writing 2002, and had been awarded two fellowships from Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.

A past-president of the Haiku Society of America, she has published five collections of haiku and related verse: Shadow Play: Night Haiku; The Orange Balloon; In the Broken Curve; The Monkey’s Face; and Stages and Views. Co-author with the late William J. Higginson of The Haiku Handbook, her work also appears in The Haiku Anthology; Haiku Moment;, Road to the Interior; Haiku World; Global Haiku; The Unswept Path; and several others.
