Author Bio

Susan Constable began writing haiku when a free-verse friend suggested she enter the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival Contest in 2006. After researching the form on-line, she submitted two haiku and both won Highly Commended Awards. She was hooked! Since then, Susan’s received several other haiku awards, including first place in the Francine Porad Contest for 2010. She is pleased to be the judge for this event in 2011. Her haiku have also been published in two dozen journals, as well as in the Red Moon Anthologies, a New Resonance 6, and Montage: The Book. In 2007, Susan began composing haiga, and was one of three featured artists on Daily Haiga in 2011. She began dabbling with haibun in 2008 and, in 2009, started to explore the tanka form. In 2010, one of her tanka received third place in the Tanka Society of America Contest. Her inspiration comes largely from the beautiful west coast of Canada where she lives with her husband. Having eagles, sea lions, seals, otters, and herons at her doorstep, as well as the ever-changing sea and sky, she finds there is always much to photograph, to write about, and to simply enjoy.
