Annette Makino is a haiku poet and artist who combines Japanese-inspired collages with her poems. Her work regularly appears in the leading English-language haiku journals and anthologies, and her poems have won honors in the Touchstone Awards, the Henderson haiku contest, and the Brady senryu contest, among others. Annette’s book of haiga, Water and Stone, was honored in the Haiku Society of America’s Merit Book Awards.

Growing up with a Japanese father and a Swiss mother, Annette has spent time in both Japan and Europe. Since 1986, she has made her home in Arcata, California, where she lives on a redwood-covered hillside. She is married with two children.
Annette brings to her work more than thirty years experience in writing and graphic design as a communications specialist for nonprofit organizations. She has a degree in international relations from Stanford University.
