Carole MacRury is an award-winning poet and avid photographer based in Point Roberts, Washington. She is involved in the arts community on both sides of the U.S./Canadian border, having acted as one of the organizers and haiku judges for the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival and coordinator of Haiku Garden, which sponsors a series of haiku workshops for elementary and secondary school classes. Carole is also involved with the World Poetry Reading Series at the Vancouver Public Library, as well as on co-op radio, and serves as Secretary/Treasurer for the Tanka Society of America.

Carole’s work has been widely published in both U.S. and international literary journals. Her photographs have graced the covers of Modern Haiku and the Tanka Society of America’s journal, Ribbons. Her photo-haiga-a modern version of haiga, the ancient Japanese art of combining painting and poetry-have appeared online in Simply Haiku, Haigaonline, World Haiku Review, the Greenleaf Files, and Santa Fe Broadside; and she had her own local gallery show in October 2006 at the Blue Heron Gallery. Crows are a favorite subject, and Carole never tires of trying to capture on film the essential nature of these highly intelligent birds.

Carole and her husband, Tom, love the outdoors. They enjoy boating the San Juan Islands with their son and his wife, who live in Seattle; and fishing and hiking the Colorado streams with their daughter, her husband, and their two children, who live in Fort Collins, Colorado.
